CBOSS Introduces CBOSSota for Over-the-Air Configuration of Mobile Handsets

Struggling to keep and increase their market share and ARPU carriers ceaselessly offer new services. However, these services are often difficult to activate, and the handset configuration required for adequate interaction with telco's equipment is one of the challenges. CBOSSota addresses this challenge automatically uploading the required settings to subscribers' handsets. To start using a new feature, all subscribers need to do is to order service settings and confirm the download.

The settings can be ordered from the website or by SMS. On the Internet, a subscriber fills out a web form specifying the service type (WAP, GPRS, e-mail, etc.), handset model and phone number. Sending an SMS, a subscriber should only enter the service to be configured. If a service has its own dedicated phone number, it is enough to send an empty SMS to it.

CBOSSota processes the request, and sends back an SMS with the configuration and instructions on settings activation. As a rule, it is only necessary to confirm the delivery and select a required profile.

The system processes up to 36 000 requests per hour and allows for downloads to handsets supporting any basic standard such as Nokia/Ericsson Over the Air Settings Specification or OMA Client Provisioning.

CBOSSota operation is enabled by integration with an SMSC, for example with CBOSSsms Short Message Service Center. The system can simultaneously work with two SMSCs. If one of the centers fails, the messages will be redirected to the other. While redirecting, CBOSSota controls request and SMS data integrity.

If a service provider wants to deliver over the air configurations for a fee, CBOSSota should be integrated with a billing system. The product seamlessly integrates with any billing solutions including CBOSSbcc, a convergent billing and customer care system providing efficient event-based rating.

CBOSSota's web interface can be easily built into the existing suite of Internet services. If a telco's Internet system supports user registration (as it is implemented in CBOSSics Internet Customer Service) it is possible to restrict subscriber access to the functionality of CBOSSota, for example, granting the access to registered users only.

The over the air mobile device configuration system CBOSSota is a great driver behind service promotion, making activation of new services fast and intuitive for subscribers. Ease of service use increases customer loyalty and boosts revenue generated by innovative value-added services and bundles.
