CBOSSasap 4.0. The Fastest Wins!

CBOSS Corporation, a leading supplier of OSS/BSS solutions, has announced the immediate availability of the latest version of its Advanced Architecture for Service and Application Provisioning CBOSSasap. The new release brings outstanding opportunities for telecommunications companies seeking to slash time-to-market for their value-added services (VAS).

According to some estimates, the VAS market may generate more than $50 billion in revenue over the next five years. However, this figure is really difficult to predict due to different perceptions of what services this market includes. In spite of the fact that value-added services are non-core revenue generators, they may account for a quarter of a telecom's income, and this is expected to rise further. As a rule, a telco's VAS portfolio contains several dozens of services, which makes the VAS segment highly competitive and constantly striving for innovation. Innovation plays a great role here. It allows telecoms to actively promote their products, differentiate services, and meet the ever changing and constantly growing customer requirements. CBOSSasap is purpose-designed to help telecommunications companies effectively overcome these challenges through flexible management of value-added services.

CBOSasap is a unified platform that enables the deployment of a widest range of standard telecommunication services such as self-service, call management, messaging and content. The modular architecture of CBOSSasap enables rapid and cost-effective creation of new niche services and update of existing services to best fit emerging trends of the market and needs of telecoms. Each module of the system is responsible for a separate function: applied service logic, charging, a network interface, etc, which enables the effective re-use of existing mechanisms, leading to development cost minimization and faster time-to-market for new functions and products.

As well as other CBOSS systems, CBOSSasap 4.0 is based on the principles of '3D Convergence'. The system supports various network standards (GSM, CDMA, iDEN, PSTN, UMTS, etc.), flexible charging mechanisms (prepaid, postpaid, and hybrid schemes), different operating systems, and hardware platforms. This universality enables service providers to upgrade the system at minimum cost and easily switch to a different communication standard. The 3D convergent architecture of the solution has already helped one of CBOSS customers to migrate from the SN-prepaid to the IN-prepaid configuration, which did not require any change in the hardware or software. The migration costs were reduced to the expenses on the system re-configuration to support new telecommunications protocols.

CBOSSasap 4.0 was originally designed as a cross-platform architecture capable of supporting all value-added services and featuring advanced ergonomics. This release supports two server operating systems: Linux Red Hat Enterprise Edition 4 and Windows 2003 Server, which adds to the reliability of CBOSS products. The cross-platform approach requires higher quality of the source code and involves two levels of code consistency check, including autobuild and autotest procedures, for both Windows and Linux applications. The reliability of CBOSS' Linux-based solutions has already been selected by several telecommunications companies, including a German mobile virtual network enabler MVNECO GmbH.

By now, the entire range of CBOSS' messaging solutions, including CBOSSsms, CBOSSmms, CBOSSussdLike, and CDMA2GSM and USSD gateways, has already been transferred to CBOSSasap 4.0. First of all, this allowed the SMSC to attain virtually unlimited scalability and get rid of performance limitations. Today, CBOSSasap 4.0-based CBOSSsms is installed in Southeast Asia. Currently it processes 4100 messages per second, with a planned expansion to 13200 messages per second.

The highlights of the release also include the optimized administration system. Now CBOSSasap has a web management interface, search engine, filter settings, and bulk operation manager, which results in lower administration costs. In addition, CBOSSasap 4.0 features an advanced overload control based on the Call Gap functionality enabling the use of a switch to restrict traffic. The mechanism allows an operator not only to restrict the total number of calls received by a platform, but also to distribute it across different services. For example, reducing the system load, CBOSSasap will first restrict low priority services, allowing critical services to process all incoming requests.

Another enhancement is support of the WIN IS-826 and SIGTRAN protocols for telecommunications companies operating 3G and NGN networks. Moreover, CBOSSasap 4.0 features Wireless IN implemented on the platform level, which allows immediate creation of CDMA services and functionalities in the WIN configuration.

All in all, CBOSSasap 4.0 has more than 400 new requirements implemented. The platform has added a new graphical user interface CBOSSsdp that allows for the independent development of value-added services. CBOSSsdp reduces the creation of any most complex service logic to a set of drag&drop and context menu operations, which does not require any special knowledge. The interface will help telecoms develop and introduce their services as fast as possible.

CBOSSasap 4.0 opens up new opportunities for telecommunications companies striving to create and modernize their value-added services in record time and at minimum cost. Today, CBOSSasap 4.0 is running in Southeast Asia, Germany, and Afghanistan, and is being installed in Russia, Nigeria, and Bangladesh.
