Convergent Solution from CBOSS for 3G and Next Generation Networks

Most of the world is now facing qualitative changes in the field of telecommunications. For mobile operators, this concerns above all the development of high-speed data transfer technologies. Building broadband networks that ensure a data transfer rate sufficient to provide mobile multimedia services and high-speed Internet access creates radically new methods for extending the range of services offered by operators, which can be source of additional revenue.

Nowadays, when ARPU from voice services is steadily decreasing and the growth of VAS revenue has greatly slowed down, some experts see the implementation of 3G services as a solution of the above-mentioned problems. Other experts, based on the current experience of 3G network development in different countries, which has proved to be a lengthy process that requires rather large investments and a long payback period, doubt that 3G services are soon to turn from the cost to income item. Yet, whatever the assessment or forecast, one cannot deny the fact that the general development of information and communication technologies will inevitably make it necessary for the world's telecom market to actively build cutting-edge telecommunication networks.

A number of CBOSS client companies have been benefiting from the use of 3G technologies for quite a long time. For instance, thanks to the CBOSS solution the Georgian operator Geocell has been offering the residents of the country's five largest cities the service of high-speed Internet access along with video call and mobile TV services (streaming video and video on demand) since 2006, which allowed the company to strengthen its leading position in the region.

"We focus on the state-of-the-art services, providing customers not only with superb quality, but also with great entertainment and leisure opportunities. That is why it was really important for us to switch to 3G as fast as possible," said Haydar Kizildag, CTO at GEOCELL. "The solution from CBOSS did not require any upgrade to support our 3G network allowing GEOCELL to reduce both costs and time of the project implementation."

Geocell implements UMTS-based 3G services. However, there are currently two competing concepts of 3G development; one is based on UMTS and the other one - on CDMA 2000. These technologies differ in approaches to infrastructure, which some specialists call a revolutionary (UMTS) and evolutionary (CDMA 2000) way, respectively. The evolutionary way involves keeping the current broadcast bands and gradually implementing innovative technologies with prior growth of an operator's engineering capacity. The revolutionary UMTS, in its turn, implies a transfer to absolutely new technical facilities and to different frequency resources. Both options have quite a lot of supporters, UMTS being preferable in Europe, while CDMA 2000 - in Asia and America. Hence, vendors of software/hardware for telecommunications, which are present on the international market, should ensure compatibility of their solutions with both of the standards.

CBOSS Corporation has extensive practical experience in the implementation of convergent solutions for 3G services based both on UMTS and CDMA 2000. It should be emphasized that all CBOSS products are already designed to operate in 3G and NGN. That is why neither special upgrades nor additional operator costs needed when some of the existing CBOSS customers wished to launch 3G services.

CBOSS Corporation has successfully provided solutions to support CDMA 2000 in Baykalwestcom (Russia), Yeniseytelecom (Russia), WaselTelecom (Afghanistan) and BelCel (Belarus), as well as UMTS in MVNECO (Germany) and, as mentioned above, Geocell (Georgia). A project of 3G roaming implementation based on the roaming management system CBOSSroam has been completed in OJSC MTS (Russia).

Baykalwestcom, Yeniseytelecom, BelCel, and WaselTelecom companies use solutions from CBOSS to enable high-speed data transfer services based on the EV-DO technology, which provides subscribers with mobile Internet access at the rate of 2.4 Mbps and, consequently, allows them to efficiently use network resources for communications, entertainment, and work.

Andrey Soborov, CEO at BelCel, comments “In our company's development strategy, we put emphasis on high-speed data transfer services. The technological basis for migration to NGN and, accordingly, for opening up new prospects for our business, is provided by CBOSS Corporation whose convergent solution is remarkable for its high reliability and versatile functionality.”

For MVNECO GmbH, a German mobile virtual network enabler, the CBOSS products' capability to support services based on next-generation standards and technologies played an important role from the very beginning. This is explained by the peculiarities of an MVNE's business model implying that the enabler must be ready to meet the widest range of MVNO customer needs and, therefore, the solution used must be as flexible and feature-rich as possible. That is why, aiming to support business processes of PSTN, GSM, and UMTS operators, MVNECO GmbH chooses the convergent solution from CBOSS.

CBOSS Corporation pays special attention to the improvement of its products and development of new systems to advance the technology and foresee the telecom market needs.
