New CBOSSsms Product Offers 99.999% Availability

CBOSS Corporation is proud to announce a new hi-end short message center CBOSSsms based on the NonStop platform. The solution's improved architecture guarantees 100% timely short message delivery.

Mobile markets have recently been witnessing saturation and drop of ARPU. Given these trends, telcos face an increasing challenge to differentiate themselves from competition, roll out new value-added products, improve customer loyalty, maximize infrastructure efficiency, and decrease the total cost of ownership.

Short messaging is a killer-app among non-voice services. SMS services may generate up to 15% of telco's revenue. In this light, any messaging reliability issues will inevitably result in substantial revenue loss.

For example, a 99.5% SMSC availability provided by most standard cluster solutions means 44 hours or 2,640 minutes of downtime over a year. At the same time, the 99.999% availability of the NonStop-based CBOSSsms presumes a maximum of five minutes of downtime. Let's assume that a global average cost of an SMS message is USD 0.1. In this case, the inadequate solution availability will cause a telco with 1, 000, 000 subscribers generating 100 chargeable SMS messages per second to lose Δ=(2,640-5)×60×100×0.1=1.6 million US dollars every year.

Moreover, even a short SMSC outage can damage the company's image and become a major drawback in the fierce competitive battle on the today's telecom market.

To protect and boost ARPU, telcos need to expand their SMS service portfolios. Electronic and mobile commerce services are powerful SMS traffic generators. However, these services place stringent requirements on availability and performance, while financial information requires reliable and timely delivery to ensure its relevance.

The new CBOSSsms product is purpose-designed to tackle the above-mentioned challenges.

The five nines availability and low TCO of the NonStop platform allow telcos to protect their revenue and dramatically reduce expenses.

The guaranteed immediate message delivery can take service quality to an utterly new level, resulting in improved customer experience and loyalty. CBOSSsms can also be used in mobile financial services and content products, where reliable message delivery is key to the telco's success. The new solution's architecture and exceptional performance ensure fast message delivery even during the peak hours, which is especially important for dynamically growing and major operators.

What are such exceptional reliability and performance parameters based on?

The outstanding availability is substantiated by the fully rebuilt architecture with redundancy of all runtime processes and hardware featuring best availability in its class. Moreover, the Active/Active Mated Pair configuration can be used to build geographically distributed disaster-proof solutions with guaranteed data integrity and availability.

The Mated Pair redundancy in NonStop-based CBOSSsms is far superior to other standard load sharing schemes, where each server processes a part of the message flow and regularly synchronizes the data with the other server. To enable 100% delivery guarantee, CBOSSsms accepts a message for processing (and notifies the customer) only after the message has been successfully saved in both active databases. In this case, no incoming messages are lost if one of the servers fails.

To date, CBOSSsms can be supplied on NonStop S- or NS-series systems. NS servers can process up to 4800 messages per second. This is made possible by 1.6 GHz Intel Itanium 2 processors with throughput of up to 400 messages per second, coupled with direct message delivery and support of high-speed interfaces and protocols - SIGTRAN and HSL (High Speed Links). Also, the system offers virtually unlimited horizontal scalability.

NonStop-based CBOSSsms supports the 3D convergence concept offering full payment, service and platform convergence. The product is built on end-to-end hardware platform, supports all modern network technologies (GSM, CDMA and UMTS), and can simultaneously host prepaid and postpaid customers with multiple charging options.

CBOSSsms is purpose-built to easily integrate with other products from the broad CBOSS Corporation's portfolio. For instance, CBOSSsms can seamlessly integrate with the real-time prepaid billing solution CBOSSrtb (rtBillingTM) to support platform convergence and centralized administration functionality.

Designed primarily for telcos with the subscriber bases above 2, 000,000, the NonStop-based CBOSSsms fully meets the current and upcoming market demands. The product's unique technical characteristics allow telcos to take service quality to an utterly new level and gain sustainable competitive advantage, while cutting IT infrastructure costs. Having completed a major hi-end SMSC development project, CBOSS Corporation once again demonstrated its technological leadership in the field of convergent IT technologies for telecommunications.

NonStop-based CBOSSsms will be available in the end of 2008.
