CBOSS products meet the most demanding requirements specified by telecom companies, for they are based on the components from leading vendors like Hewlett-Packard, Oracle Sun, and Hitachi Data Systems. CBOSS provides a single point of responsibility for the entire software/hardware solution delivered.

Competition for subscribers implies a continuous increase in the number and quality of services provided. Growth of the subscriber base and tightening of the requirements for the functionality and reliability of the CBOSS products from our customers make us build our solutions on the hardware platform with the ever growing performance.

CBOSS Hardware Platform

The product line of CBOSS servers features a well thought out policy of upgrading the software/hardware solutions, which is especially critical for telecom companies with ever-increasing subscriber base. However, such features of hardware platforms as reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) are no less important under modern conditions. Reliability is characterized by the availability of data channel fault monitoring and troubleshooting system, redundant uninterruptible power supply systems, system status and environment indicators, as well as by the use of special cables and connectors. A high level of availability of a hardware platform is achieved through redundancy of the most critical system components (CPUs, controllers, address buses, PSUs, cooling systems, I/O subsystems, etc.). Serviceability is enhanced by a modular design, diagnostic and self-testing tools, possibility of hot replacement of the critical nodes and components of the hardware platform and its dynamic reconfiguration.

The load balanced architecture of the CBOSS servers ensures the optimal level of the scalability and performance of the CBOSS hardware platform, easy integration into the existing infrastructure of any telecom company and its gradual upgrade, when required. All this guarantees protection of customers’ investment in the CBOSS hardware platform.

Disk Subsystem

CBOSS Enterprise Virtual Array 8400

EVA8400 allows for the effective use of the disk space, provides high scalability and performance, as well as capacity growth without service interruption. It also allows you to make immediate copies of logical volumes and replicate them across remote systems.

The virtualization, automation, and remote management and monitoring tools of EVA8400 allow the system administrator to avoid complex routine typical of the management of “classical” RAID arrays. The tools not only save you time and money, but also enhance the entire system reliability, for they reduce the possibility of human errors. They also greatly speed up and facilitate the process of adapting a company’s information system to changing business requirements and, hence, to changes in capacity and load distribution, increase in the number of servers, and implementation of new applications. All this enables adaptation to new conditions with guaranteed business continuity.

The integrated software of the EVA8400 controllers implements the concept of self-adjusting and recoverable system, which along with the modular design of EVA allows you to easily and quickly adapt the array parameters, including the capacity and performance, to new requirements with uninterrupted server and application maintenance.

The table below describes some characteristics of the array:

Disk array capacity  up to 324 TB

CBOSS Backup System

One of the most important conditions for the successful operation of an information system is data integrity. The volume of information stored on industrial servers is rapidly increasing. Even that of small businesses amounts to hundreds of GB. If the data stored in disk arrays is reliably protected against hardware failures through mirroring and different RAID levels, only a backup system can protect it against loss due to user error, program failure, common accident, catastrophe, or natural disaster. Creation of a reliable backup system is a must to ensure business continuity.

Company managers often do not realize how critical data archiving is. It should be kept in mind that any severe accident may be disastrous for a business if there is no backup system or if it fails. According to special studies, more than 40% of the companies which suffered from a disaster and irreversible loss of a large amount of corporate data failed to survive.

CBOSS StorageWorks EML 442e

Hardware Platform based on SUN and HDS Components

The family of Sun Microsystems industrial servers is designed so that a customer can transfer to a new model with all basic components (CPUs, memory modules, power supply units) retained in a new casing. To upgrade a server, usually one just needs to replace chassis while keeping the internal elements of the server. They can be supplemented with new modules to make the system more powerful. Depending on the class of a telecom company’s objectives, it can choose from the following types of RISC servers of the Sun server family: entry-level servers (Sun SPARC Enterprise T51x0, T52x0, T5440, and M3000), midrange servers (Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000) and hi-end servers, being flagship of the Sun Microsystems product line (Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000 and M9000). CBOSS suggests that medium and large telecommunications companies use the following Sun servers as a hardware platform:

Standard Hardware Platform based on SUN Servers Servers
Number of subscribers 20-200K 200-2,000K 1-5M over 5M

In Sun SPARC Enterprise M5000 server, all internal components are fully redundant: connections to disk subsystems, network connections, etc. The server enables creation of dynamic system domains and hot replacement of processors. An operating system can be upgraded without stopping the server. Sun SPARC Enterprise M5000 allows combining dual-core SPARC64 VI and quad-core SPARC64 VII processors, each of them with its own nominal frequency, which gives additional protection to your investments. We recommend Sun SPARC Enterprise M5000 server for companies that want to have a highly scalable system with maximum reliability and performance.

Disk Subsystem

Booming telecom market means tougher requirements not only for server reliability, scalability, and performance, but also for storage systems. Today, a storage system is not just a set of disks connected to a server. It is a set of tools that should provide high-level access to data and its availability any time; protection against failures and disasters; disk space monitoring and management; auto archiving and transparent recovery. CBOSS offers to solve these tasks by using state-of-the-art storage systems from leading vendors like Hitachi Data Systems, Hewlett-Packard, and Sun Microsystems.

HDS USP V

For large companies with a rapidly growing subscriber base, CBOSS offers a hi-end HDS USP V storage system with the highest availability and scalability. The system is available under the brands of Hewlett-Packard (XP disk array) and SUN Microsystems (SE 99xx disk array). USP V features the revolutionary non-blocking architecture of Fibre Channel with an exceptional level of reliability, availability, and serviceability. The solution architecture provides high bandwidth, I/O rate and scalability level. Compared to earlier models of modular disk arrays, UPS V has a number of undeniable advantages, one of which is aggregate bandwidth of 106 GB/sec. The array design enables support of any types of applications, including “heavy” ones, i.e., those with intensive I/O. Its architecture is based on a Hierarchical Star Network that provides multiple redundant non-blocking channels of data transmission between the I/O subsystem, cache memory, and disk subsystem.

The table below describes some characteristics of the array:

Disk array capacity  up to 2269 GB SATA, up to 1134.5 TB FC
Number of hard drives  5-1152 (FC 146, 300, 450, 600 GB, SATA II 1 TB, 2 TB, SSD 200 GB, and 400 GB)
Cache size  8-512 GB
RAID levels  0, 1, 1+0, 5, 6

HDS AMS2500

Hitachi’s midrange storage system AMS2500 is a flagship of the AMS series. It features the latest advancements in data storage. The table below describes some characteristics of the array:

Disk array capacity  up to 945 TB SATA, up to 276 TB SAS
Number of extension modules  32
Number of hard drives  4-480 (SAS 300 GB 15K, 450 GB 15K, 600 GB 15K, SATA II 1 TB, 2 TB, SSD 200GB)
Cache size  16-32 GB
RAID levels  0, 1, 1+0, 5, 6

To enhance availability, AMS2500 uses mirrored cache with battery backup. It also enables firmware update without interfering with the operation of the storage system. It supports hot addition and replacement of storage devices and cache memory, automatic data recovery and automatic shutdown of failed components. AMS2500 can be effectively used in open SAN architecture and serve as a key component for building fail-safe systems within a software/hardware solution of a telecom company.
